Cannes Can Food

As the week has worn on, we have definitely discovered, if there is one thing the French do well, it’s food. We’ve not had a single bad, or even mediocre, meal so far. From the little cafe behind our hotel, where we’ve enjoyed the freshest breads and cheeses, to the numerous restaurants around the hotel and up into the old town, you would have to try hard to find something to embarrass the french kitchen.

Our favorite meal so far is our dinner at l’Oulivie. We took a walk into the old town and ended up walking down the “restaurant street” from the top of the old town. Most of the menus are similar and you really have to look hard to find the “special” dish that sets any one of them apart. Prices are fairly consistent as well – mains run between 18-28 Euros. The decision to eat at l’Oulivie was made easy by Greg’s love of duck. Stef opted to “gamble”, not knowing if she would like duck, and it truly amazed. Their preparation includes brown suger that makes the small layer of fat and skin incredibly mouth-watering. It’s slightly sweet with a little crunch. In fact, it was so good, we ate there again tonight!
